Absolutely fab afternoon dagger making. Took 3 years to finally make it over after initial discovery then. Will be back much sooner with friends. Especially worth mentioning Duncan was fantastic as a teacher and instructor

Once in a lifetime experience! We traveled from the USA to UK and this was one of the coolest (hottest?) things we did. While the site offers everything from knives, swords, and daggers to garden decor, wands and belt buckles, we chose the Ring Making for Two. I made my husband's ring and he made mine. Hand crafting your partner's wedding ring is not something many people can claim.

The process seemed like it would be intimidating, but it was just fun. The day flew by. We started with heating and hammering blocks of steel into 'rings' that were about 3 sizes smaller than what the final product will be. Don't worry, you'll have the opportunity to measure your finger. The next step was heading to the high speed sander. Always wear hearing protection and a blacksmithing bib while using the sanders. Again, it was all about safety first.

We then went to the ring room where we used handheld grinders (Dremel tools) before heading to a refining sander to add detail. We had one more trip to the ring room before the final results were professionally polished.

Our instructor, Corey was a great teacher. He was patient and very safety conscious. He watched us to ensure we were following safety protocols at all times. He's got a great personality and kept things lively and entertaining.

There was one other couple making rings at the same time as us. We really enjoyed their company and appreciated all the suggestions of things to experience and places to see as we headed to Scotland.

The cafe has the largest portion sizes I've ever seen. Share a sandwich so you can have one of the amazing desserts.

The cheeky safety signs around the forge are the best!

Visitor Suggestions: Arrive 15 minutes early and read the safety instructions e-mailed to you. Cotton is king. Plastic materials like polyester blends will melt onto your skin.

If you are making a smaller ring, start measuring EARLY. Even though my ring was for my index finger and a much larger size than my size 4 ring finger, it still exceeded the first measurement before it was sized and we had to pivot to a different finger. It was already too late by the time we received the measuring tool.

Operator Suggestions: Hold more than 1 safety meeting. Unless guests are standing right next to the speaker, they cannot hear. Maybe hold the safety meeting outside of the loud forge and limit the audience to no more than 10?

I had the pleasure of spending a week at Oldfield Forge with some great people gaining some fantastic knowledge and experiences.

Day 1 - 5 hour fun - scroll knife making, with Shep, mastering 5 of the 7 fundamentals of blacksmithing.

Day 2 - 5 hour Garden ornament with Benji and Duncan making a humming bird garden feature.

Day 3 & 4 - Damascus Steel blade making with Cory. This was the main event and one that showed the true skill of the of the smiths within the forge and knowledge they have.

Day 5 - Handle making to finish off my Damascus knife with George and Cam.

All in all, a remarkable experience that is open to everyone and delivered with skilled blacksmiths of varying years of experience but all who have a single common thread running throughout - passion about what they do and pride in making your experience enjoyable and memorable.

Went this morning for a just for fun 3 hours experience. Staff was very helpful and instructive on what I had to do. Will be coming back for more of courses and maybe even looking into training on becoming a blacksmith.

Amazing experience myself and my husband have been three times so far and cant wait to come back. This time we made rings which was an amazing experience. Duncan was amazing at showing us each step ( repeatedly at times). Enjoyed every minute including the amazing pizza at lunch time.

Great day out, this was the third time I've been, but the first without any family.

First went about 7 years ago and the experience just keeps getting better.

The safety briefing sets the mood, serious subject delivered with a bit of humour, while making sure people understand just how serious injuries could be if they don't think about what they are doing. Just the way I would deliver it.

The experience itself gave maximum opportunity to try the skills while the staff are always on hand to provide guidance and answer questions. They allow you to do as much as possible, but will also step in now and then to ensure you don't go too far off track and will have the same thing you are expecting to take home at the end of the day.

Just spent two days at old field forge and what an experience it’s been for both myself and my 17 year old. All the staff were willing to go above and well beyond anything either of us could reasonably expect, with our day two “tutor” Callum, being exceptional. The food we had was beautiful and again above expectations for a “cafe at a forge”. All in all an amazing two days and not only a sword made but also memories with my boy. Thank you, I 100% recommend this to anyone and will definitely be back myself.

My day at Oldfield Forge was awesome, and a fantastic way to celebrate my Stag! We forged a Group Sword together, where I got to choose each detail of my sword, and we forged each of the individual components to be combined at the end. The rest of my party each got to forge their own Viking knives too!

The staff were incredibly helpful: Corey was attentive, knowledgeable, and very funny, which helped us all settle into the forging side of things a lot easier. Seeing the sword displayed at the end was a memorable moment we all loved, and Corey was happy to oblige with taking some group photos of us all.

The workshop was very hands on, so we gained a new appreciation for Blacksmithing and the immense skill (and strength!) that goes into it. It was well worth the journey to get there and I'd definitely recommend doing it if you don't mind getting your hands dirty, and the heat of the forges - bring a water bottle and prepare to refill it frequently!. My sword now sits proudly on display in my living room, with a great story to tell of it's creation!

What an amazing experience! We went for my brother's Stag do and did the sword making experience and it was such fun. We had the brilliant Corey guiding us and he was both very willing to teach you what to do and chilled out enough to joke around with you.

Would 100% go for a return visit - Such a fun place and such a variety of different activities you can do!
