Book through the online booking system, which shows live availability and allows you to select suitable dates. Oldfield Forge is open throughout the year, seven days a week, although weekend dates should be reserved well in advance. You can also buy an e-voucher, valid for 18 months, covering two people attending two full-day sessions and making two rings. Once your booking is confirmed, you will receive an email with the information you need and a form to complete. Your experience begins with a warm welcome and a comprehensive safety briefing before stepping into the forge. Your instructor will demonstrate each stage of the poppy-making process, from heating and shaping the petals to assembling and finishing your flower. With expert guidance throughout, you’ll gain hands-on experience using traditional blacksmithing techniques and finish the session with the satisfaction of taking home a hand forged metal poppy you’ve created yourself.

Our Poppy Making experience is a three-hour, hands-on blacksmithing workshop where you’ll create your own handcrafted metal poppy from raw steel. Guided by one of our experienced blacksmiths, you’ll learn traditional forging techniques as you heat, shape and assemble your poppy before adding the finishing touches. No previous experience is needed, making it the perfect introduction to blacksmithing for complete beginners.

The workshop lasts approximately 3 hours and includes expert tuition, all materials, professional workshop equipment, and PPE. The experience costs £78 per person, and you’ll take home the hand forged metal poppy you’ve created during the session. Gift vouchers are also available, valid for 18 months, and can be redeemed seven days a week during our available workshop sessions.
